Juan Medina, 30, was charged in a White Plains federal complaint with making false statements related to an anonymous Aug. 29 phone call accusing his former roommate of planning to travel with AR-14 and AK-47 firearms to Westchester County later that day to kill the visiting president.

A New York man was arrested and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child after police learned he had sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old female from Garfield. Police arrested Wilmer Lara, 20, of White Plains, N.Y., as a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit and the Garfield Police Department.

Jack Dailey, a senior at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, was recently honored with the coveted Honor Medal and Crossed Palms award in a recent ceremony of the New York City Boy Scouts and the National Court of Honor for saving an elderly neighbor and toddler from an apartment fire. According to an Oct. 21 New York Daily News article the drama began on Thursday, Jan. 30, when the 17-year old Boy Scout with Troop 240 in the Riverdale section of the Bronx smelled smoke in a neighbor's apartment upon returning home.

A 19-year-old White Plains woman who survived a jump onto the Sprain Brook Parkway from an overpass on Tuesday, is being treated at Westchester Medical Center. Trooper Melissa D. McMorris, public information officer for the New York State Police, said State Police responded to the incident at 11:55 a.m. Troopers, who were assisted by the Westchester County Police, determined that the woman had jumped from the Hospital Road overpass onto the Sprain Brook Parkway in Hawthorne.

City Sales Tax Receipts Stagnant after First Quarter. County up 2.49% After 9 Months

Despite a series of promotional events in September, a jazz week, back to school sales, early halloween sales, and even Christmas displays already up and the usual business back to normal routine, White Plains sales tax receipts are down 1.14% from the last year fiscal pace. The city received $143,741.47 less in sales tax receipts in September, for a total of $12,505,970.91 the first three months of the city fiscal year compared to $12,649,712.38 the first quarter of last year.

FBI agent took bribes in exchange for internal law enforcement documents

The Department of Justice announced that on October 17, 2014 two Connecticut men pleaded guilty to bribery charges , admitting that they participated in a scheme to obtain confidential, internal law enforcement documents and information from a former Special Agent with the FBI in White Plains, New York. The Food Bank for Westchester's 24th Annual Celebration of "An Evening in Good Taste" To End Childhood Hunger was held on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 1133 Westchester Avenue in White Plains. The event featured more than 20 local chefs, 100 volunteers and some 700 guests, all infused with the goal to end childhood hunger in the area.

Two Connecticut men pleaded guilty today to bribery charges, admitting that they participated in a scheme to obtain confidential, internal law enforcement documents and information from a former FBI Special Agent in White Plains, New York. Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department's Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara of the Southern District of New York, and Justice Department Inspector General Michael D. Horowitz made the announcement.

Garfield man charged in child-sex case

A 20-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault after police investigated a report by parents that he had sex with their 13-year-old daughter, authorities said Friday. Wilmer Lara, of White Plains, N.Y., was arrested on Wednesday after the girl's parents told police they had learned that he had sexual intercourse with their daughter on more than one occasion, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said in a release.
