The city was one of four Platinum Award winners in AAA's annual Community Traffic Safety Awards luncheon held at The Carltun in East Meadow, N.Y. The awards recognize outstanding communities for their efforts to make the region's roadways safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Over the past five years, White Plains has shown a 42 percent reduction in bicycle injuries, a 36 percent reduction in driving while intoxicated crashes and 25 percent reduction in pedestrian injuries at Advance Walk Signal locations.
